Pasta is one of the most versatile foods you will ever find. And, no one will be tempted to say, “What? Pasta again tonight??” because of the seemingly endless varieties available and the numerous flavors and foods it pairs so well with. Pasta is happy to introduce itself as an appetizer, take center stage as the main course, linger contentedly as a side dish, or be completely disguised by a host of other more dramatic ingredients. It is usually served steaming hot, but is just as delicious cooked and then chilled in a salad. It can be dressed to the nines or served simply with melted butter and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Even the pickiest eaters usually find pasta to be a palate-pleasing winner, and kids usually enjoy the variety of fun shapes it comes in.

Take Your Burger From Bland to Grand!

Backyard cooking via firing up the grill is a popular summertime activity. Hamburgers have always ranked near the top of favorite foods to grill. However, it can be easy to fall into a rut when preparing this all-American classic. After all, how many ways are there to serve ground beef on a bun? “What more can one add besides cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, and the standard condiments?” you may be wondering. We’re glad you asked.

Burger From Bland to Grand

Just about every restaurant these days has burgers of some sort on their menu. To find some amazing local choices, look for local food delivery near me. Or, give new flavor to your own home-cooked burgers by following these new twists on an old favorite…

Buffalo Bison Burgers with Onion Rings & Blue Cheese

Burgers made from ground bison are a healthier choice than those made from ground beef. Bison meat is thinner than beef and contains less calories, fat, and cholesterol, while containing more protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Adding buffalo sauce to the ground bison mixture is a great play off of buffalo chicken wings. Top the grilled burger with blue cheese dressing to tone down the heat of the sauce, and sprinkle with french fried onion rings for some salty flavor and crunch. Try a pretzel roll instead of the traditional bun for another fun twist.

Spicy Burgers with Chili and Basil

Spicy Burgers with Chili and Basil

Spice up your hamburger routine by mixing 1 pound of ground beef with 1 red bell pepper (seeded and chopped), 1 garlic clove (finely chopped), 2 small red chilies (seeded and finely chopped), 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil, ½ teaspoon ground cumin, and salt & pepper to taste. Once the burgers are grilled, garnish with sprigs of fresh basil and serve on large sandwich buns. The extra spiciness of these burgers is sure to be a hit!

Savory Burgers with Apples and Cheese

Sweet apples and savory cheese are a natural pairing that complement each other well. They combine to create mouthwatering flavor in this unique burger. To whip up this awesomeness, mix 1 pound of ground beef with 1 onion (finely chopped), 2 teaspoons of whole grain mustard, 3 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste, and 2 ounces of sharp cheddar cheese. Peel and core 1 Granny Smith apple, then grate and add to the mixture. Grill burgers until done to personal preference. Next, peel, core, and thinly slice another Granny Smith apple. Top burgers with one slice of Gruyere cheese, let melt, and add several apple slices. Add caramelized onions and an additional touch of mustard if desired. Enjoy!

We hope these ideas will breathe new life into your backyard barbeques this summer. If you prefer instead to chill by the pool and let someone else do the cooking, be sure to check out the many local food delivery options near you or just do a search for online food delivery near me. A Warm, Healthy Start to Cold Winter Days

When temperatures outside start falling and the days become shorter and darker, preparing comfort foods becomes a priority once again. Our bodies naturally begin to crave food that will both nourish us and keep us warm. We need something that will keep our immune systems functioning well and our metabolism going strong during the cold winter months, when we would rather just hibernate. Oatmeal is an ideal breakfast choice, delicious cold-weather fare that will check all of the above boxes and then some.

A Warm, Healthy Start to Cold Winter Days

Oats are some of the healthiest grains on earth. They are a low-calorie, gluten-free whole grain and are a great source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are especially rich in manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, iron, and zinc. Oats contain more protein and fat than most grains, meaning they will keep you feeling full longer. They are also a good source of carbs and fiber, including the powerful fiber beta-glucan, which helps promote healthy gut bacteria. All of this means that oats are some of the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat.

Research shows that consuming oats and oatmeal provides one with many health benefits including a reduced risk of heart disease, lower blood sugar levels, lower total and LDL cholesterol, reduced constipation, and weight loss. Adding this super-grain to your regular diet is a smart and inexpensive way to improve your health and manage your weight.

Oats can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. They are often added to baked goods such as muffins, cookies, and breads as well as muesli and granola; however, the most popular way to enjoy them is to simply eat oatmeal (porridge) for breakfast. Most people prefer to eat rolled, crushed, or steel-cut oats. Instant (quick) oats are the most highly processed type. They take less time to cook, although their texture may be slightly mushy. Here is a very easy way to prepare oatmeal:

  • 1/2 cup of rolled oats
  • 1 cup (250 ml) of water or milk
  • A pinch of salt

Combine ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook the oats, stirring occasionally, until soft. To enhance the taste and nutritional value of your oatmeal, you can add cinnamon, fruit, nuts, seeds and/or Greek yogurt.

A fun way to change up your oatmeal routine is to either make it in the crock-pot or bake it. Here is a recipe for crock pot oatmeal that is sure to warm both your family’s hearts and stomachs. The beauty of this method is that breakfast is already done when you wake up!

Crock Pot Oatmeal :

  • 1 Cup steel-cut oats
  • ⅓ Cup brown sugar
  • 1 TSP cinnamon
  • 1 T butter
  • ½ cup dried blueberries
  • 1 apple, chopped
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup steel-cut oats
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 T butter
  • ½ cup dried blueberries
  • 1 apple, chopped
  • 4 cups water

Crock-Pot Oatmeal

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Add 2 inches of water to the crock-pot and set the bowl in the water. Turn crock-pot on low and cook overnight for 8-10 hours. Enjoy!

If you would prefer not to prepare these dishes yourself, you can always Google fast food delivery near me or order food online near me and get access to the best delivery service around with ChowCall. Your favorite comfort food is just one phone call away!
